It was a Saturday night in Camarillo Springs, the kind of evening where the resort parking lot was full and everyone had somewhere to be. A guy had been at a conference all day at one of the hotels out there and when the valet pulled his 2013 Q5 around, he patted his pockets and came up empty. The fob was gone. The car will not power up until it wirelessly confirms a fob that is registered to its encrypted immobilizer module. If every registered fob is gone, the car is just a very expensive piece of furniture until someone who knows what they are doing shows up.
I pulled the security data off the immobilizer module, sent it through the calculation server, got the return file back, generated a dealer-equivalent key, and completed the pairing over the OBD port. The whole process happened right there in the valet lane.
His Q5 started. He caught the tail end of his Saturday night.
The dealer would have been a two-day minimum wait and a bill that would have made the weekend even worse. This was done in one visit, same night, for a fraction of that.
