She'd just come from a medical appointment in Simi Valley and was sitting in the parking lot off the 118 corridor when she called me. The fob had been acting up for a couple of days, and now the push-button wasn't responding at all. She needed to get to a pharmacy in Strathearn before it closed at six, and the BMW service department was already done for the day.
I got there and found the fob battery had corroded the internal contacts badly enough that the car wasn't seeing the key at all. The emergency blade in the fob still worked, so she could get into the car manually, but starting it was another problem. The car was sitting dark and unresponsive.
I swapped in a replacement fob with a good battery, went through the OBD port to register it to the vehicle's security system, and verified every function before I packed up. Door unlock, lock, start. Everything checked. Total time from her call to engine running was just under an hour.
She made the pharmacy. She texted me afterward just to say so. That part of the job isn't in the invoice, but it's the part I remember.
