2015 BMW 2 Series Emergency Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
She had just gotten results from her oncologist and needed to get home. Her 2015 BMW 228i wouldn't start in the medical building lot over in Rancho Simi Park. Fob dead, push-to-start not responding. It was late afternoon in Simi Valley and she had medication to pick up before the pharmacy closed at six.
The BMW dealer service department was already done booking for the day. She called me.
I got the door open using the emergency blade tucked inside the fob housing. Connected my IM608 to the OBD-II port and pulled up the FEM module. Her key's VL2020 rechargeable cell had corroded one of the battery contacts inside the fob shell, so the transponder signal wasn't reaching the FEM at all. No "key not found" message on the iDrive, just a blank non-response from the start button.
I replaced the fob, programmed it to the FEM through ISTA protocol, and walked every function: lock, unlock, trunk release, panic, comfort access on both front doors, and push-button start with the key in the cupholder and again from my pocket across the car. Everything clean.
From her call to engine running was 52 minutes. She made it to the pharmacy with time to spare and drove home in her own car that evening. When someone needs to fill a prescription before the counter closes, the timeline is not flexible.
