I got a call from a woman in the Big Sky neighborhood in Simi Valley, maybe 8:30 in the morning. She had a showing across town at 10 and her 2 Series would not respond to anything. Push-to-start was dark. The fob felt dead. She tried the inductive start trick against the button and got nothing. She had the emergency blade out but wasn't sure where to use it and was standing in her driveway going in circles.

The blade got her into the car. Once I was connected through the OBD port, I could see the fob was not just a dead battery situation. The key had not been properly re-registered after a prior battery swap, which is a thing that happens more than people realize on this generation of BMW. Someone had swapped the fob battery and didn't know that some variants need a re-sync after power is lost.
I programmed a replacement fob, tested every function including the inductive start fallback with a dead battery, and confirmed the emergency blade operated the door lock cylinder cleanly. Total time on-site was about 40 minutes.
She made her showing. The dealer route, with a tow because the car was sitting in a driveway and not at a shop, would have taken most of the day. She saved a significant chunk of money and didn't miss a commission.
I didn't bring that last part up. She did.
