2013 Honda CR-Z Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A food truck operator near Harry A. Lyon Park in Ventura called me early one morning, voice shaking a little. His 2013 Honda CR-Z key had snapped clean in the ignition. Half the blade was jammed in the cylinder, the other half was in his hand. He was afraid to force anything and couldn't turn the car off cleanly.
I got there and used my HO01 Lishi to extract the broken piece without chewing up the ignition wafers. Once it came out clean, I decoded the lock right off the cylinder readings and cut a fresh HO01 edge-cut blade. The CR-Z uses a remote head key, FCC ID MLBHLIK-1T, with a 46 (G) transponder chip inside the head. His remote shell was fine, so I only needed to cut and program a new transponder blade.
One registration cycle through the OBD port and the immobilizer accepted the new chip. Green key light came on solid, engine fired right up.
I tested lock, unlock, and trunk on the remote, then cycled the ignition twice more to make sure the immobilizer handshake was consistent. He watched the whole thing from about two feet away, arms crossed, not saying much until the engine caught. Then he just exhaled.
Back on the road in under an hour from the call. A dealer would have meant a tow, a multi-day wait, and way more money. For these older Hondas, a snapped key is one of the simplest jobs I run.
