Got a call around 3pm from a line cook stuck in a parking lot near Cemetery Memorial Park in Ventura. His 2015 Honda CR-Z would not start, his shift began at 4, and you could hear the kitchen stress already building through the phone. His head chef had called asking where he was. I pulled up and used my HON66 Lishi to pick the door. No damage, no drama. Plugged into OBD-II and pulled up the immobilizer side. The CR-Z runs Honda's HITAG 2 transponder protocol through the body control module, board number 38600-SZT, and his MLBHLIK-1T remote head key had dropped its transponder registration. Fresh CR1616 in the fob, reprogram through the diagnostic port, verify the immobilizer handshake, test all three buttons.
While I was at it, I cut and programmed a spare for his glovebox. Honda part number 35111-SWA-306 for the shell. Whole job took about 20 minutes hands-on.
He clocked in at 4:10. A dealer would have meant a tow, a wait measured in days not minutes, and a bill that would have hurt a lot more. He texted me that night saying thanks. That is the kind of call I like, where the timing actually matters and I can get there fast enough to change how the day ends.
