A muffler shop near Promenade Park in Ventura called me about a 2014 CR-Z that another locksmith had walked away from. The owner needed an all-keys-lost replacement. The first tech got partway through programming, the car battery sagged mid-handshake, and the immobilizer faulted out. Green key light on the dash just blinked and the engine would crank but not fire. The other guy packed up.
When I got there, I hooked my jump pack to the battery posts before touching anything else. Stable 12.6 volts, no negotiation. Cleared the stored fault codes with my IM608, then started a clean IMMO reset through the OBD-II port. The CR-Z runs the same HITAG 2 / ID46 chip setup as the second-gen Fit, so the procedure is familiar territory. Once the module accepted the reset, the new MLBHLIK-1T with its 35111-SWA-306 blade profile learned on the first attempt.
I cut the key to code on the van, tested ignition start, lock, unlock, and trunk, then showed the shop guys why battery voltage matters during programming. They had no idea a half-volt drop could brick the process.
The whole job ran about an hour and a half, which is longer than a normal add-a-key. But it got done on-site, same day, for a fraction of what a flatbed ride to the dealer and a multi-day wait would have run him.
