Got a call from a woman over near Freedom Park in Camarillo. Her 2014 Patriot would not start and the key fob buttons were completely dead. She had already swapped the CR2032 herself, which was the right first move, but the engine still would not turn over.
She was ready to have it towed to the dealer. I told her to hold off and I would come out.
When I got there, I plugged my Smart Pro into the OBD-II port and pulled the SKIM data. The WIN module had lost its handshake with the old key's transponder. No stored codes, no security light pattern that pointed to a wiring fault. Just a key that the vehicle stopped recognizing.
I cut a new SIP22 emergency blade, seated a fresh OHT692427AA remote head key with the PCF7941 chip, and ran the all-keys-lost procedure through the SKIM. The system cleared the old key data, learned the new transponder, and registered the remote functions. Whole thing took about 25 minutes in her driveway.
She stood there watching me test every button, lock, unlock, trunk, panic, then start and restart the engine twice. When it fired right up the second time she just nodded, like she finally believed it.
The dealer would have needed a tow plus a day or two on their schedule. She was back on the road before lunch, for a fraction of what that route would have cost.
