2016 Jeep Patriot Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call around 10pm from a guy stuck near St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo. Accountant, still in his work clothes, standing in an empty office park lot next to his 2016 Jeep Patriot. His only key was gone. Not inside the car, not in a pocket. Just gone.
He was already looking up tow trucks when he called. Didn't have his registration handy, didn't know what a VIN was. I told him to look through the windshield, base of the glass on the driver's side. He found it. Then I had him pull up his insurance app, and there was his registration.
With the VIN texted over, I already knew the key type, the blank I needed, and the chip before I left. OHT692427AA, four-button remote head, Hitag2 transponder. I prepped everything on the drive out.
Under the parking lot lights, I cut the key, built the remote head, and programmed the transponder through the OBD port using my VVDI to talk to the WCM. The whole job took about 35 minutes. He sat on a curb watching and got noticeably calmer once the Patriot turned over.
He drove home that night. A dealer would have meant a tow, a wait until morning, and a bill that makes people wince. He paid a fraction of that and was home before midnight.
