2016 Land Rover LR4 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy out near Underwood Family Farms in Moorpark. His 2016 LR4 had one working smart key left, and the buttons on it were going soft. Lock and unlock still worked if he pressed hard, but the tailgate button was dead and the panic had a mind of its own. He had called the Land Rover dealer already. They quoted him a wait of over a week just to get the fob in stock and another visit after that to program it.
I pulled up, checked his existing KOBJTF10A fob on the hood. The rubber membrane under the button pad was torn right at the tailgate contact. Classic wear spot on these five-button shells. The electronics and the HK83-15K601-AA board inside were fine.
Programmed a new smart key through the OBD port, paired it to the KVM, cut the emergency blade to match the door barrel, then tested every function. Passive entry on all four doors, tailgate release, start-stop, lock from the handle button. Went through the full cycle twice.
He held both fobs, the old one and the new one, and just sort of weighed them in his hands like he was comparing apples. Then he asked if I could move the good board from his old fob into a fresh shell so he'd have a clean backup. Took about five extra minutes.
Two working keys, one visit, done in the parking lot for a fraction of what the dealer wanted.
