Got a call from RiverPark neighborhood in Oxnard, guy with a 2012 Range Rover Evoque sitting in his driveway. Both smart keys dead. Not low battery dead. Gone. One got run through the washing machine, the other just vanished somewhere in the house during a move.
He was already looking at flatbed quotes to haul it to the dealer in Thousand Oaks. They told him over the phone it would be a week minimum once the car arrived, and that they might need to order a new KVM if the all-keys-lost procedure flagged a module issue.
I pulled up, decoded the lock on the driver door to get the key cut data, then went through the OBD port with JLR-specific diagnostic software to put the KVM into registration mode. The Hitag Pro transponder in the new KOBJTF10A fob needs a handshake with the KVM before it'll arm the immobilizer, so there's a timed sequence you can't skip. Cut the emergency blade, programmed the fob, tested all five buttons, ran the passive entry on both front doors and the tailgate.
He stood behind me the whole time, not hovering, just watching. When the engine turned over on the push button, he exhaled like he'd been holding his breath since Tuesday.
Whole thing took about an hour and a half in his driveway. No flatbed, no week-long wait, and a good chunk less than what the dealer quoted him.
