2019 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How much more does all-keys-lost cost compared to just adding a spare?

On JLR vehicles, that gap is real and it matters. Adding a spare while you still have one working key is a clean, fast job. All-keys-lost means the security system has to be fully cleared and reprogrammed from zero, which takes more time and more specialized equipment. Owners on Land Rover forums consistently report dealer quotes for all-keys-lost situations that are dramatically higher than add-a-key pricing.

Q: Do aftermarket Evoque fobs work, or do I need an OEM unit?

This comes up constantly and the answer matters on a 2019 Evoque. The fob isn't just a radio transmitter. It has to pair correctly with the vehicle's security system through a proper programming sequence. Generic fobs from online marketplaces might power on and look right, but JLR forum threads are full of owners reporting that cheap replacement fobs either fail to register at all or develop pairing issues shortly after.

Q: My 2019 Evoque shows a key warning on the dash but the fob battery is new. What's going on?

A few things can cause this even with a fresh battery. First, check how the battery was seated. If the CR2032 is even slightly cocked in the tray, the contacts won't read it properly and the car treats it the same as a dead cell. Pop it open, reseat it firmly, and retest. If that's not it, the fob's internal board can develop a fault independent of the battery.

Q: Can I program a replacement 2019 Evoque smart key myself at home?

No. There is no DIY button sequence or ignition-turn procedure for the 2019 Evoque smart key. Programming requires a professional-grade diagnostic tool connected to the OBD port. That's the only way the vehicle registers a new fob as authorized. If you bought a fob online, you still need someone with the right equipment to pair it to your car before it does anything at all.

2019 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I took a call out to Pierpont on a Tuesday morning. The owner had parked her 2019 Evoque the night before, and by morning she had zero working keys. One fob had gone missing weeks earlier and she'd been meaning to get a spare made. Then the second one finally gave out, and she was locked out completely.

No tow needed. I drove out to her street, popped the door with my tools without touching the paint, and got to work on the hood.

The all-keys-lost procedure on these JLR vehicles takes a little longer than a standard add-a-key because the system has to be cleared and rebuilt from scratch. I connected through the OBD port, ran the reset sequence, and programmed two new fobs while I was there. Cut the blades to match the vehicle, tested passive entry on all doors, tested the start, walked every button on both fobs. Both keys registered clean.

She asked what the dealer had quoted her neighbor for the same situation on a similar Land Rover. I just told her to call them and compare. She laughed and said she'd take my word for it.

The whole job was done before she finished her second cup of coffee, and she drove off with a spare this time.

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the most affordable way to replace my 2019 Range Rover Evoque key?▼

Skip the dealer as your first call. Land Rover dealers typically treat key replacement as a multi-step service visit that can run well into the hundreds, sometimes over a thousand depending on the situation, and they may tell you the vehicle needs to come in on a flatbed if you have no working keys.
