2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in North Ventura, I got a call from a guy who'd had his key stolen out of his bag at a gym.
He still had the car, parked at his place, but he was sitting on it like a problem he didn't know how to solve. His first instinct was to call the dealer, who told him to tow it in and plan for a significant wait because they'd need to order parts.
He found me before he scheduled the tow.
When I got there, the situation was clean. Car was in the driveway, accessible, and we still had the vehicle. That matters on an all-keys-lost job because it changes what tools and steps are needed. I connected to the OBD port, ran the key reset through my JLR-capable diagnostic equipment, cleared every previously registered fob from the system, and enrolled the new smart key. Both the proximity functions and the emergency insert blade got tested before I packed up.
The part that stuck with him was the erase. He kept asking, "So they definitely can't use the stolen key now?" That's the whole point of the job. Once the reset runs and the new key is the only registered key, the old fob is a paperweight. It won't start the car. It won't unlock the doors.
He saved a good chunk compared to the dealer quote he'd already been given, and he didn't have to arrange a tow.
