2008 MINI Clubman REMOTE-HEAD-KEY Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a guy in the Blanchard Community area in Santa Paula. His 2008 Clubman was sitting in the driveway with one key that had a cracked blade, held together with electrical tape. He'd been nursing it for months.

He told me the dealer quoted him over a week turnaround. They wanted him to tow the car in because the taped key was too sketchy to drive on, and he'd need to leave it. A week without his car, plus the tow, plus the key. He just kept putting it off.

I parked behind the Clubman and got to work on the hood. The original key is the IYZKEYR5602 remote head, three button, with a PCF7942 transponder chip inside that talks to the CAS2 module. I cut the HU92 blade on the Condor, matched it to the existing key's bitting, and then plugged into the OBD-II port to write the new transponder to the CAS2. Remote pairing on these is done through the on-board procedure: key in, ignition on, hold unlock, press lock three times. Quick cycle, doors responded on every button.

He stood there turning the new key over in his hand like he was waiting for the catch.

Whole thing was done in about 25 minutes. He peeled the tape off the old key and handed it to me like evidence. Kept the new one and went inside. No tow, no week without his car, and it cost him a fraction of what the dealer wanted.
