Got a call from a guy on the Patterson Road corridor in Oxnard. His 2011 MINI Countryman was sitting in the parking lot outside his office and his only key had snapped at the blade, right where the HU92 meets the plastic head. The transponder puck was fine, the remote buttons still worked, but the broken stub was stuck in the ignition barrel.
He had already called the MINI dealer. They told him to get it towed in, order a new key through parts, and come back in three to five days. He said the way they described it, you would think the car needed surgery.
I pulled the broken blade stub out of the ignition with an extractor, then cut a fresh HU92 blade on the van's portable machine using the door lock to decode. Plugged into the OBD-II port, read the CAS3+ module, and programmed the new ID46 chip. The whole thing from parking to handing him a working key took about 35 minutes.
He turned the ignition, the immobilizer light on the cluster flicked off the way it should, engine fired right up. He sat there for a second just holding the new key like he was making sure the blade was solid. Then he locked it, unlocked it, tested every button on the remote head. All good.
He kept the broken key head as a souvenir. Said it cost him way less than what the dealer wanted just for the tow alone.
