Got a call from over by St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard. A guy's 2015 MINI Countryman keys were stolen out of a gym bag. Not lost. Stolen. That changes the job.

When keys go missing you can hope they turn up. When someone takes them, you need those keys dead in the system before whoever grabbed them circles back and drives off. He knew that. That was the first thing he said on the phone, before he even asked about a replacement.

I pulled up and connected through the OBD port to the CAS3+ module, which is what the R60 Countryman uses for its immobilizer and key management. Ran a full key reset, wiped every previously stored key ID, then programmed his new NBGIDGNG1 smart fob as the only authorized key. He wanted a spare too, so both got registered in the same session.

After programming, I had him test the whole routine. Slot start, remote lock, remote unlock, panic button, and the comfort access if he walked away and came back. All four buttons, both fobs, every function.

He kept glancing at the parking lot while I worked, like someone was going to roll up with his old key and try it. I get that. Once I told him the old fobs were erased and would do nothing to this car, he finally relaxed.

The whole thing took about 40 minutes on site. No tow truck, no waiting room at the dealer, and way less than what they would have quoted him for two new keys from the parts counter.
