A call came in from a guy over in Marina West, Oxnard, who had his keys stolen out of his car while it was parked near the marina. Not just inconvenient. That kind of situation has a clock on it, because whoever took the fob still has working access until the old key gets wiped from the system.

He had already called the dealer. Appointment was days out, and they wanted him to have it towed in. He did not want to tow a car that still ran. That is when he called me.

I drove out to his spot in Marina West and connected through the OBD port. The process on these is a full immobilizer reset first, which clears every previously enrolled key. Every one of them. The stolen fob, any spares he had left at home, all of it wiped. Then you register the new key from a clean slate.

He wanted two keys programmed so he would have a backup this time. Smart move, and doing both in the same session is the right way to handle it. Same reset, both keys enrolled before I close out the job.

Before I left, we walked through every button on both fobs and confirmed the car started clean with each one. He asked if there was any chance the stolen fob could still work. After a full wipe and re-register, no. It is dead to that car.
