Got a call from Centennial Plaza in Oxnard. Guy had a 2013 Countryman S ALL4 sitting in a parking lot, zero working keys. His only remote head key fell out of his pocket somewhere the day before, and the spare he thought was in a kitchen drawer turned out to be from a car he sold two years ago. I opened the door with non-destructive entry tools, no marks on the R60's door frame. Then I decoded the HU92 lock cylinder to get the bitting, cut a fresh blade on my portable machine right there on the asphalt.

The all-keys-lost procedure on these CAS3 modules takes patience. Connect through OBD2 and the system needs the ISN read from the CAS3 before it lets you register a new key with a virgin PCF7945 chip. The whole sync took a little over an hour because the CAS3 on R60s is physically harder to access if you need a backup read path. He stood there watching the whole time, arms crossed, not saying a word.

Once the key turned and the engine fired, he uncrossed his arms. That was it. No speech, just a slow nod. Cut him a second key on the spot so he would not end up in the same situation again.

Way less than what the dealer quoted him over the phone, and he never had to leave that parking lot.
