2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Can you delete my lost or stolen key from the system so it can't start the car?

Yes, and on this vehicle that erasure is part of the programming process, not an add-on. When new keys are registered to the 2023 Eclipse Cross security system, the procedure clears all previously stored fobs from memory first, then writes only the keys that are physically present during the session. A lost or stolen fob gets wiped automatically. It won't start the car after that.

Q: Does my 2023 Eclipse Cross smart fob have a hidden emergency blade inside it?

It does. There's a small release button on the back of the fob housing. Press it, slide the blade out, and you have a metal key that fits the driver's door lock. The keyhole on the door is covered by a small cap you can pop off with a fingernail or a thin tool.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online. Can I program it myself to my 2023 Eclipse Cross?

No. This generation does not have a DIY button-sequence or ignition-cycle relearn. Registering a new smart fob to the 2023 Eclipse Cross requires diagnostic equipment connected to the OBD port to access the security system, read the PIN data, and write the new fob into memory. There is no onboard self-programming procedure for smart key fobs on this vehicle.

Q: My Eclipse Cross is showing a key warning on the dash but the fob battery is fresh. What else could cause that?

A few things. First, check that the CR2032 is seated correctly and the contacts inside the fob aren't bent from a bad pry-open. A new battery sitting slightly off-center reads almost as weak as a dead one. Beyond the battery, the more common culprits are RF interference in the area where you parked, a fob that took physical damage to the internal antenna board, or in rarer cases a communication issue between the key receiver and the vehicle security system.

2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was out in Casitas Springs on a Tuesday afternoon when the call came in. Owner of a 2023 Eclipse Cross. She had a working key, but she'd lost her second fob and wanted a spare added before she needed it badly. Reasonable thinking.

She met me in her driveway. The job itself was clean: connect to the OBD port, access the vehicle security system through the diagnostic software, read the necessary security data, handle the PIN extraction, and register the new fob alongside her existing one. The blade inside the new fob got cut to her vehicle on site. Total time was under an hour.

The moment that stuck with me was after I finished the button check. I walked the full perimeter of the car, tested lock and unlock from distance, ran three consecutive starts, and checked that the emergency blade physically released from the housing and fit the door lock. She had watched all of it and then asked why I was testing the blade separately if the fob was already working.

I told her the blade is the backup to the backup. If the fob battery fails at midnight in a parking lot and she doesn't know where the keyhole cap is on the door handle, none of the programming we just did matters. So I show every owner where it is, every time.

She hadn't known the keyhole existed. She'd owned the car for eight months.

The dealer had quoted her a wait time of over a week plus a price that made her pause. We were done before her kids got home from school.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the cheapest way to handle all-keys-lost on my 2023 Eclipse Cross?▼

Call a mobile locksmith first. Dealer quotes for all-keys-lost on this generation of Eclipse Cross tend to be steep, and availability is often the bigger problem: some Mitsubishi dealers need days or a full week to schedule a key job, and if the car is stuck somewhere you can't drive it, towing adds to the bill before the key work even starts.
