2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: What exactly is a remote key and how is it different from a smart key?

A remote key has a physical blade you insert and turn in the ignition cylinder, plus a transponder chip inside the head that the vehicle reads every time you try to start. The four buttons handle lock, unlock, and the other functions without touching the door. A smart key -- sometimes called a proximity or push-button key -- never goes in a cylinder. The 2024 Eclipse Cross uses the remote setup: blade in the ignition, chip gets read, engine starts.

Q: My Eclipse Cross is showing a key-not-detected warning. Where do I start?

Start with the CR2032. A low battery in the fob is the most common reason that warning shows up, and it can happen gradually -- range gets short, then the car starts hesitating to recognize the key, then the warning. Pop the back of the fob, swap the CR2032, reseat the cover all the way around until it's flush.

Q: Can I program a second key for my 2024 Eclipse Cross myself, or do I need a shop?

You need professional equipment. There is no ignition-turn sequence or button combination that will enroll a new remote key on this vehicle. The transponder has to be paired through the OBD port using a diagnostic tool that can communicate with the immobilizer. If you bought a fob online, that fob will do nothing until it's enrolled. The blade also has to be cut to your specific vehicle -- it won't come pre-cut.

Q: I have one working key left. How long does it take to get a spare made, and does it matter that I still have the original?

Having the original with you makes the job faster. I can confirm the key blade profile and fob details from your existing key rather than pulling everything from VIN data alone, which means less diagnostic time upfront. The cut and programming for a spare on the 2024 Eclipse Cross runs well under an hour in most cases. The thing to know is that the immobilizer doesn't erase existing keys when you add one -- your original keeps working.

2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was parked near the water at Ventura Harbor when she called. She'd already done her homework -- looked me up on the BSIS site, checked the license number, confirmed the business name matched the van. Said her last guy had handed her a receipt with a first name and a disconnected number. She wasn't doing that again.

She needed a spare for her 2024 Eclipse Cross. Nothing dramatic -- no lost keys, no lockout -- just a customer who understood that having one key to a car is a bad plan.

I pulled up behind her, confirmed the factory fob details against the label on her original, and got to work at the OBD port. The Eclipse Cross immobilizer requires proper enrollment through a diagnostic tool, not a shortcut. I ran it clean, no stored faults, no residual errors in the system. Tested lock, unlock, the remaining buttons, and the blade in the door cylinder while she watched.

She asked about the dealer quote she'd gotten over the phone. I told her to call them back if she wanted, but she'd already seen what the job looked like. Real receipt, real license number, real van with the name on it. She kept the spare.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

My key blade snapped off in the ignition. Can you get it out?▼

Yes. Broken key extraction is a standard mobile job. I carry the tools to pull a broken blade from a Mitsubishi ignition cylinder without damaging the cylinder itself. Once it's out, I can cut a new key blade to match your vehicle and program a fresh fob on site.
