2002 Oldsmobile Aurora
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Does the 2002 Oldsmobile Aurora key have an FCC ID?

No. FCC IDs are assigned to wireless transmitters, and the 2002 Aurora key doesn't have one. It's a transponder turn key, meaning there's no radio signal, no fob, and no wireless component. The key works through close-range chip communication when it's physically in the ignition. If you see part numbers or FCC codes floating around online for this key, they belong to a different vehicle or a different key type.

Q: Are you licensed and insured to do this work in California?

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is licensed through the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, fully insured, and bonded. We're also BBB A+ rated and part of Google's Guaranteed program, which you can verify directly through Google. All of that is on record and checkable before you ever hand us your key.

Q: I had a key cut at a hardware store and it turns in the ignition but the car won't start. What's going on?

That's a transponder issue. A hardware store can copy the cut, but they can't program the chip. The 2002 Aurora's immobilizer checks for a recognized transponder signal every time the key turns. If it doesn't see one it knows, the engine won't run, or it'll crank and shut off almost immediately. The key physically fits because the cut is right. The car just won't accept it. You need the chip enrolled to your specific vehicle.

Q: Can I program a second key myself at home, or does it have to go through a shop?

It has to go through a shop or a mobile tech with the right programmer. The 2002 Aurora doesn't have a DIY relearn sequence you can run through the ignition on your own. Enrolling a new transponder key requires diagnostic equipment connected to the vehicle. There's no button trick, no ignition-cycle sequence that does it without tools. If someone online says otherwise, they're thinking of a different system or a different era of vehicle.

2002 Oldsmobile Aurora Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call out to Hope Ranch on a Tuesday morning. The owner had a single working key left for her 2002 Aurora and she wanted a spare made before that one gave out. Smart move, honestly. These are old enough now that finding someone who can actually do the job on-site is getting harder.

She mentioned a locksmith had come out a few months earlier for something else and told her the Aurora key "just needs to be cut." That guy didn't know about the transponder. She had paid for a cut-only key that never started the car.

I pulled up with the programmer and the right key blank already in the kit. Cut the blade to match her existing key, then enrolled the new one through the diagnostic port. Took about twenty minutes total. She tested it herself, locked and unlocked by hand, started the car twice. Worked clean.

The cut-only key that other guy made was still sitting in her center console. Useless piece of metal. She held it up and laughed a little.

Dealer had quoted her a wait of several days and an amount she wasn't happy about. I didn't even bring it up. The job speaks for itself.

Oldsmobile Aurora Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What battery does the 2002 Oldsmobile Aurora key use?▼

None. The 2002 Aurora uses a transponder key, not a key fob. There are no buttons, no remote, and no battery to replace. The key has a transponder chip embedded in the plastic head that communicates with the vehicle's immobilizer every time you start the car. If your key isn't starting the vehicle, it's a chip recognition issue or a cut problem, not a dead battery.
