Over in Oxnard at Fisherman's Wharf at the Harbor, there is an RV storage yard where a retired teacher kept her 2014 Ram 3500. She called me because her FOBIK housing had split from being dropped on concrete, and the whole thing was held together with electrical tape.
The dealer told her the only fix was a complete replacement FOBIK. They did not mention that the electronics inside, the circuit board and the transponder that talks to the RF hub module (part 56046454AE on these fourth-gen Rams), were still working fine. Just cracked plastic.
I met her at the lot and pulled up the FOBIK. The GQ4-53T board inside was clean and dry. No corrosion on the battery contacts, no damage to the PCB traces. The CR2032 was weak but the chip itself was solid. I transferred her working electronics into a new aftermarket FOBIK shell, dropped in a fresh CR2032, and snapped it together.
Then the real test: lock, unlock, remote start, panic, cargo. Every button responded. Plugged it into the ignition column and the truck fired without a hesitation. The Sentry Key light on the dash stayed off, which is exactly what you want. If that little key icon illuminates and stays on, the immobilizer is rejecting the transponder. Hers never blinked.
She got her working FOBIK back for a fraction of what the dealer quoted, and the truck never left the parking spot.
