An HVAC tech near the Oxnard Transit Center flagged me down at the taco spot on the corner. Not literally, but close. His coworker had used me before and passed my number along. He had a 2017 Ram 3500 and needed a spare FOBIK cut and programmed. The dealer had quoted him a number that made him pause, plus a week wait for the appointment.
His truck runs the Wireless Ignition Node, the WIN module, which is the slot on the dash where the FOBIK plugs in and twists. Inside the key is a Hitag AES transponder chip that talks to the WIN, and the WIN talks to the TIPM. If the chip code checks out, the engine starts. That security handshake is why you can't just copy these at a hardware store kiosk.
I pulled up with my Smart Pro, connected through the OBD-II port, and ran the security sequence. The tool reads the stored PIN from the WIN module, then registers the new GQ4-53T FOBIK to the truck. Cut the emergency blade on the HU101 keyway, tested the transponder authorization, then walked through all the buttons: lock, unlock, remote start, panic, and tailgate release.
He stood there eating his burrito while the whole thing took about 25 minutes. Same result as the dealer. He just didn't have to leave his truck somewhere for a week to get it.
