2023 Ram 3500
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How fast can you get to my location in Oxnard or The Collection area?

I give you an honest arrival window when you call, based on where I am and what the schedule looks like. Because I'm already mobile and running jobs in the area, I can often get to you faster than a tow truck could reach you and haul the 3500 to a dealer. For a truck that size, a tow plus dealer wait time adds up fast. I come to the truck, wherever it is.

Q: Can I get a replacement key made today?

In most cases, yes. I carry key blanks, cutting equipment, and programming tools for the Ram 3500 in my service vehicle. If the key is in stock and the schedule lines up, I can be at your location and have a new smart key cut, programmed, and tested the same day you call. Ram dealers often can't match that turnaround because they may need to order the fob first before programming can even start.

Q: I have a spare key that still works. Should I get a second one programmed now or wait until I need it?

Do it now. All-keys-lost on a 2023 Ram 3500 is a longer, more involved job than a standard add-a-key. When at least one working key is present, the process is quicker and simpler. Once that last key is gone, the procedure changes and takes more time and equipment to complete.

Q: My 2023 Ram 3500 fob works sometimes and sometimes doesn't. Is the key dying or is it the truck?

Start with the CR2032. Intermittent behavior, where the fob works fine one minute and then the truck shows a key-not-detected warning the next, is a classic low-battery symptom on these. Swap in a fresh CR2032, make sure it's seated flat against both contacts, and retest. If the problem continues after a new battery, it gets more specific. A fob that's been dropped or gotten wet can have a cracked circuit board internally even when the shell looks intact.

2023 Ram 3500 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a text from a horse trainer outside Oxnard with a pin drop and two words: "please help."

Her 2023 Ram 3500 was sitting between paddocks on a dirt road. One of her horses had stepped on the fob in the barn. The key was cracked through, blade snapped clean off. No dealer was going to come to her. No flatbed was going to have an easy time getting in there either. She'd already called one shop and they told her they didn't service that location.

I loaded up what I needed for the 3500 and drove to her pin.

When I got there, the truck was right where she said, dust on the tires, horses watching from the fence. I decoded the door lock, cut a fresh blade to match, and built out a complete replacement fob. Then came the programming, pairing the new key to the truck's security system through the OBD port with the diagnostic tool. The truck recognized it on the first attempt.

She started it right there on the dirt road.

She mentioned what the dealer had quoted her, plus a tow from a location no flatbed was going to love. What she paid me was a fraction of that, and she never had to leave the property.

That's the whole point of being mobile.

How long does a 2023 Ram 3500 key replacement take?▼

Usually 30 to 45 minutes once I'm at your truck. The programming side on these newer heavy-duty Rams requires a proper handshake between the fob and the vehicle's security system through the diagnostic port, so I don't rush that part. If it's an all-keys-lost situation, add a little time because the module needs to go through a full reset before it will accept a new key.
