2003 Saturn VUE Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was up in Camarillo Heights on a Tuesday morning, parked behind a white 2003 Saturn VUE with a guy standing next to it looking at his phone like it owed him an explanation.

His remote had been acting up for a couple weeks: weak range, occasional non-response, then nothing at all. He figured it was the battery, swapped it himself, and it worked for about three days before dying again. When he called me, he had already bought a replacement fob online. He just needed it programmed, or so he thought.

He handed me the fob. It was the wrong one. Not even close to the factory fob for this car. Bought it from a listing that said "fits Saturn VUE" without specifying the year range or the correct part number. I showed him what to look for on the back of the original, and he immediately understood.

I had the correct fob with me. We pulled the original apart to check the contacts before writing it off entirely. The battery tray had a thin layer of greenish oxidation on one terminal. Cleaned it, seated a fresh CR2032, tested range from across the parking lot. It came back to life. His original fob was fine. He did not need a replacement at all.

The transponder key was a different story. He had a spare cut at a hardware store years ago and it had never worked to start the car, just to unlock it manually. We went through the programming procedure on site, registered the spare properly, and now he actually has a working backup. That part mattered more than the fob.

He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a wait of several days just to look at it. We were done in under an hour, in his driveway, for a fraction of what they were going to charge.
