I was out in Woodcreek on a Tuesday afternoon. The call was simple on the surface: a 2004 Saturn VUE, owner had the key but the fob had quit working on her completely. She had already swapped the CR2032 herself, which I respected. Most people just keep clicking and hope.

The battery was seated but making intermittent contact because the housing had taken a hit at some point. The electronics inside were fine. The board was intact, no visible damage to the circuitry.
I pulled a replacement housing out of the van, transferred the internals over, seated a fresh CR2032 with proper contact, and then went through the programming sequence to make sure the fob was talking to the car correctly. Lock, unlock, and the third button, all tested before I packed up.
She mentioned she had called the dealer first. They wanted her to come in, leave the car, and wait. I did it in her driveway in under half an hour. The dealer comparison was almost an afterthought because the bigger win was just not having to arrange a ride to Thousand Oaks and back.
