Got a call from a woman at the Camarillo Premium Outlets who came out of shopping to a dead 2006 Saturn VUE. Not dead battery dead. She had a key, it turned, the engine cranked, and then nothing. Security light stuck on. She thought the key broke somehow and was already looking up tow trucks to get it to a dealer.
I told her to sit tight.
When I got there, I plugged into the OBD-II port and pulled codes. B2960, which is the Passlock sensor signal out of range. Classic Passlock II failure on these GM platforms. The sensor inside the ignition housing was giving the BCM a bad read, so the fuel injectors stayed disabled even though the starter spun fine.
I ran the relearn procedure through the BCM, cleared the code, and tested it three times cold. Fired right up every time, Security light cycling off the way it should.
While I was there, she mentioned her LHJ011 remote had been flaky. One of the buttons barely worked. Popped it open on the hood, the rubber contact pad was worn thin on the lock button. Swapped in a fresh CR2032 and cleaned the board contacts. All three buttons responded clean.
She drove out of the parking lot about 40 minutes after I showed up. The dealer route would have meant a tow and probably days without the car. She kept hers.
