2009 Saturn VUE
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How much more does all-keys-lost cost compared to just adding a spare?

More, every time, on any vehicle. Adding a spare when you already have a working key is a quick job. All-keys-lost means the immobilizer needs a full reset before any new key can be registered. That's more time and more steps. The price difference is real. Best move: get a spare cut and programmed while you still have a working key in your hand. A lot cheaper, a lot faster.

Q: Do aftermarket keys actually work on a 2009 Saturn VUE, or should I get OEM?

Aftermarket blanks are cheaper upfront, but compatibility matters. The 2009 VUE's immobilizer is specific about what it will accept, and a blank with an incompatible transponder chip will cut and fit the ignition perfectly and still leave you stranded. Some aftermarket options work fine. Others don't, and you won't know until programming fails. We use blanks verified for this vehicle so the job works the first time and we can confirm it before we leave your driveway.

Q: My 2009 VUE starts fine sometimes and then just cranks without starting other times. Could it be the key?

That intermittent crank-no-start pattern on these VUEs gets blamed on a lot of things, but the transponder chip in the key is worth checking. If the immobilizer isn't reading the chip cleanly on every cycle, the car cranks but won't fire. It can happen with a key that's been worn down, bent slightly, or had the head cracked so the chip inside is damaged or shifted. Try your spare key if you have one.

Q: Can I program a replacement key for my 2009 Saturn VUE myself at home?

Not on an all-keys-lost situation. If you still have one working key, there is an onboard relearn sequence available on some older GM vehicles that may allow you to add a second key yourself, but it requires a working key to initiate. No working key means no self-programming option. You need a tool that communicates through the OBD port to reset the immobilizer and register the new key from scratch. That's not a consumer-grade device situation.

2009 Saturn VUE Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy out in Leisure Village in Camarillo. Retired, drives his VUE maybe three times a week, and somehow the only key he had just disappeared. Not lost-in-the-house lost. Gone. He'd looked everywhere. The car was sitting in his driveway, totally locked up, and he had zero keys to his name.

He'd already called the dealer. They told him the car would need to be towed in, they'd need a few days to order the key, and he should expect to wait. He wasn't happy about that. He found me and asked if I could actually come to him.

I pulled up, got the car info confirmed, and started with the blank. The 2009 VUE takes a specific transponder key and the blade has to be cut right. Decoded his lock, cut the key on site, then connected to the OBD port and ran the all-keys-lost sequence. The immobilizer reset, the new key got registered, and I had him turn it over himself to confirm it fired up clean.

He stood there watching the whole thing from his driveway. Maybe 35 minutes start to finish.

He mentioned the dealer estimate at the end, almost like he was still surprised by the gap. I told him towing it in was never part of the plan.

Saturn VUE Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the cheapest way to replace my 2009 Saturn VUE key?▼

Call a mobile locksmith first. The dealer route on a 2009 VUE transponder key means scheduling, possibly towing if you have no working key, and a bill that reflects dealer overhead. With EZ Car Keyz, you get cutting, programming, and mobile service to your location in Camarillo or Leisure Village for a fraction of what the dealer charges. No tow, no appointment, no separate line items for parts and labor. Call us and we'll tell you exactly what it runs.
