Out near the Ventura Road shopping corridor in Oxnard, I got a call from a guy with a 2013 FR-S and no keys at all. Push-to-start, all-keys-lost. The car was sitting in a gravel lot at a campground about 30 minutes outside town. He had already called two dealers and both told him the same thing: tow it in, leave it for a few days, and they would order the key.
He asked me if I could come to him. I loaded my ACDP and drove out.
The FR-S runs the same Toyota 4D-67 DST+ immobilizer as the 86 twin. The ECU is a Denso 89661-series unit. I pulled the OBD port data, backed up the immobilizer, ran the all-keys-lost reset sequence, and wrote a fresh 4D-67 transponder into the system. Then I cut the HYQ12BBY blank to the key code, dropped in a new CR2016, and handed it over.
He sat in the driver seat and hit the start button. Engine caught first press. He just sat there for a second, like he was waiting for something to go wrong.
The whole job took about 40 minutes in a gravel lot with no lift, no shop, no dealer network needed. Just the right tool and the right blank. He drove home that afternoon instead of waiting out a tow and a three-day dealer hold.
