A guy at a highway pullout near Oxnard Auto Center called me because his key blade snapped in the ignition of his 2016 Scion FR-S. Half the blade stuck in the cylinder, half between his fingers. He had already called another locksmith who quoted him for a full ignition replacement over the phone. New cylinder, new keys, the whole destructive route.
I slid my TOY43 Lishi into the 2-track keyway and worked the broken fragment out without scratching the wafer surfaces. Took a few minutes. Then I decoded all ten cuts from the cylinder readings while the tool was still in there. Cut a fresh blade on the van, paired it up with a new HYQ12BEL remote head shell, and programmed the H-chip transponder through OBD.
The new blade turned the ignition on the first try. He sat there and turned it off and on twice more, like he was testing whether it would change its mind.
His original lock cylinder stayed in the car. No drilling, no swap, no parts on backorder. The ignition works with the new key exactly the way it did before the blade snapped. He kept the broken half as a souvenir, which was a first for me.
The whole thing took less time than he spent on hold with the other shop.
