Over in Port Hueneme Lighthouse, a woman flagged me down to her street parking spot where her IQ was sitting with a key held together by electrical tape. She pulled it out of her pocket and the tape was already peeling. You could see the circuit board through the crack.
She told me the dealer wanted a full replacement, quoted her a number that made her just keep wrapping tape. Months of that. The buttons had gone mushy because moisture was getting in past the split shell, but when I opened it up on her hood, the Tokai Rika B41TH board and the 4D-67 chip were both fine. Clean contacts, no corrosion.
I moved the board and chip into a fresh MOZB52TH shell, dropped in a new CR2016, then cut a TOY43 blade using my Lishi pick and decoder right off her door lock since the original blade was worn past reliable reading. Cut the new one to proper depth on all eight cuts.
Tested the remote lock, unlock, and panic from about 30 feet. Turned the ignition and the immobilizer accepted the chip without hesitation. No dash security light, no crank-no-start.
She kept turning the new key over in her hand like she was waiting for something to be wrong with it. Nothing was. She needed a shell swap and a fresh blade, not a whole new key at dealer pricing. Saved a good chunk and never left her block.
