Got a call from a guy over at Naval Base Ventura County in Port Hueneme. He had one key for his 2015 Scion iQ and it snapped clean at the blade, right where the metal meets the plastic head. Half the key stuck in the ignition barrel.
He was on base, off-duty, and the dealer told him earliest availability was two days out plus a tow. For a car that weighs less than most motorcycles. He found me online and I drove out that evening.
First thing, I extracted the broken blade from the cylinder. Still intact, clean break, so I had the original cut to reference. His key is the MOZB52TH remote head, part number 89070-52G30, three buttons on the housing. The transponder inside is a Texas Crypto 8A chip running 128-bit AES, which the iQ shares with late-model Toyota platforms.
I cut a new blade on the van using the broken piece as my decode, then cloned the H chip data to the new key head with my VVDI. Programming through OBD took about fifteen minutes. Tested the ignition cycle, tested lock, unlock, panic. All clean.
He stood there holding the old broken half like a souvenir. Said he had been meaning to get a spare for two years. So I made him a second one on the spot. Two working keys, same visit, for a fraction of what the dealer quoted for just one.
