2007 Subaru Tribeca Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
RiverPark, Oxnard. Guy had two keys for his 2007 Tribeca. One went through the wash in his shorts pocket, came out looking fine, worked fine. About two weeks later it didn't. He figured the wash fried something inside the key head, which is a reasonable guess.
He went to the Subaru dealer first because that felt like the right move. They gave him a number he wasn't expecting. Key blank, programming labor, shop fees - separate line items that stacked fast. He asked if he could wait for it. They told him it would be a day, maybe two, depending on the tech schedule. He had a pickup that afternoon and couldn't leave the car there.
He called me. I was already in the area.
I pulled up next to his Tribeca in the parking lot near the shopping center, cut a new key blank to match his lock, then connected to the OBD port and walked the programming sequence through Subaru's immobilizer registration. The security light on the dash cycled the way it's supposed to during enrollment. Key seated, sequence complete, first turn - engine started clean.
The whole thing ran about twenty-five minutes. He made his pickup. Paid a fraction of what the dealer quoted, with no tow, no waiting room, and no overnight.
He kept the washed key as a backup. I told him not to trust it. He laughed and said he probably wouldn't.
