2010 Subaru Tribeca Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy in Oxnard, over in the Wagon Wheel neighborhood, about his 2010 Subaru Tribeca. His only remote head key had cracked right at the blade pivot. The plastic shell was splitting apart and he could feel the blade wobble every time he turned the ignition. He knew it was a matter of days before the blade snapped off inside the cylinder.
He called the Subaru dealer first. They told him to tow it in and the wait would be about a week because they had to order the key blank. He looked at his car, looked at his class schedule, and called me instead.
I drove out and set up next to his car in the apartment visitor lot. The DAT17 Lishi picks and decodes Subaru's side-milled keyway by reading the lock wafers directly, so a broken original blade is not a problem. I decoded, cut the new blade on my HPC CodeMax, then seated the TK5561A transponder chip and fresh CR2032 into a new CWTWBU766 shell.
Programming the transponder and syncing the four-button remote took a few minutes through the OBD port. Lock, unlock, trunk, panic, all tested clean. Ignition started on the first turn.
He kept turning the new key over in his hand, checking the blade, pressing the buttons. Like he was waiting for something to not work. Everything worked. He kept his car the whole time and paid a fraction of what the dealer wanted.
