Over in Hollywood Beach in Oxnard, a traveling physical therapist flagged me down about her 2012 Tribeca. The key shell had cracked right through the loop at the top, and the rubber button pad was wearing thin enough to see the contacts underneath. The circuit board and Texas Instruments 4D62 transponder chip inside were clean, no corrosion, no damage. Swapped the board and chip into the new shell, tested all four buttons for range and response, then cut a fresh side-milled NSN14 blade to match her locks.
She stood there watching the whole thing, turning the new key over in her hand like she expected a catch.
No reprogramming needed because the original electronics stayed intact. The immobilizer never knew anything changed. Whole job took about twenty minutes in her driveway, and she paid a fraction of what the dealer wanted for parts that were never broken in the first place.
