2012 Subaru Tribeca Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a physical therapist over in South Winds. She had a 2012 Tribeca and the key shell had given up.
The loop at the top had snapped clean off, the rubber on the buttons was worn through to the point where you were guessing which one you were pressing, and the whole thing looked like it had been through a decade of hard use. Which, to be fair, it had.
She had already called the dealer. They quoted her a number that made her pause, and they framed it as a full key replacement, no mention of the fact that the transponder and remote electronics inside the cracked shell were functioning perfectly. She didn't need a new key system. She needed a new home for the one she already had.
I pulled up to her driveway with replacement shells and the tools to move the internals over. The donor shell matched the original button layout and was the same solid feel as factory. I transferred the electronics from the cracked housing into the new shell, reseated everything cleanly, and verified the remote range and all four buttons before I touched anything else. Then I cut a fresh blade to her vehicle and tested the full start cycle.
She watched the whole thing from her front step. When the Tribeca started on the first turn, she looked at the key like she was waiting for it to fail. It didn't.
What the dealer was going to charge for a complete replacement key, she didn't pay. Not even close.
