2010 Volvo Xc60 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over in Lemonwood Park in Oxnard, a guy had just picked up a 2010 Volvo XC60 at an estate sale. Clean car, well kept, one key. The family handed it over and told him to figure out a spare on his own.
He called the nearest Volvo dealer. The quote for a single spare programmed and cut caught him off guard. He called me and asked if that was normal. I told him it was normal for a dealer service department, but not normal for what I do out of my van.
I met him at the house. His XC60 uses the KR55WK49266 smart key with the six-button layout and a PCF7945 transponder chip inside the blade. I connected to the CEM, which on the P3 platform is the Central Electronic Module behind the glove box, through the OBD port. Read the existing key data, prepared a new transponder, cut the blade on my machine, and paired the remote and proximity functions in one visit.
While it programmed I walked him through the difference between add-a-key and all-keys-lost. On these Volvos, AKL often means pulling the CEM for bench work, reading the chip on the board, and that job takes longer and costs a lot more. Having a spare now is the cheapest insurance against that situation later.
He drove off with two working keys for a fraction of what the dealer wanted for one.
