Got called to Mission Oaks neighborhood for a 2022 XC60 that wouldn't recognize its only key. Owner tried the usual: new CR2032, cleaned the contacts, even held the fob against the start button like the manual says. Nothing.
I pulled up VIDA and found stored code CEM-U300087 for "Remote key communication failure." The CEM had dropped the key from slot 1 somehow. These XC60s store up to eight keys, but this one showed zero registered.
Started the re-learn through OBD. VIDA connected to the CEM at 0x0726, ran the security access, then the add-key function. The YGOHUF8423 smart key needed to be present inside the car during the whole sequence. Took about twelve minutes total, including the CEM's built-in security delay.
Once the key registered back to slot 1, I tested all functions: walk-away lock, hands-free tailgate, remote start through the Volvo app. Everything came back online. The owner mentioned the dealer wanted to keep the car for two days and order a new key at dealer pricing. We handled it in his driveway in under twenty minutes for a fraction of what they quoted.
