A resident called me on a Sunday morning. His 2017 XC60 was sitting in his driveway inside a gated community, dead smart key, no way to drive it out. He'd already called the dealer, who told him the earliest they could look at it was Tuesday, and that a loaner wasn't guaranteed. He'd called a tow company first, but the tow driver couldn't get gate access cleared in time and left. So the car just sat.

I connected through the OBD port, pulled the existing key data from the vehicle's security system, and programmed a new smart key to match. Built the fob on site. Ran every button. Walked the exterior checking all the door handles. Then I had him do a cold start from inside, step out, lock it, and walk back to it the way he would any morning.
It worked exactly the way it was supposed to. He said he'd been awake since six trying to figure out the HOA vehicle approval process for the tow company. I was done and back through the gate before noon.
The dealer would have had him towed in, charged a diagnostic fee on top of the key cost, and handed it back two days later. He paid a fraction of that and didn't move the car once.
