2004 BMW 5 Series
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2004 BMW 5 Series Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was parked near Santee Lakes Area on a Tuesday when this one came in. The owner of a 2004 BMW 5 Series had found me on YouTube before he ever had a problem. He watched a full BMW key replacement video, saw the process on a real car, and saved my number.

Months later, his fob started acting up. Range dropped. Then the locks started misfiring. He called me before he called the dealer, which I appreciated.

When I got to him by the courts near the lakes, he handed me the fob and explained the symptoms. Intermittent lock response, short range, and one morning the car sat there and just did not acknowledge the key at all until he held it right against the door handle. Classic pattern on these E60s.

I checked the battery first. CR2032, which is correct for this fob. It was not dead, but it was low enough to cause exactly what he described. Swapped it, reseated it clean. Retested all three buttons from a real distance. Locks, unlock, and the third button all came back sharp.

Then I ran a quick programming check through the OBD port anyway, just to confirm the key slot was solid and nothing had drifted in the immobilizer module registration. It was clean. The fob was fine. The battery was the whole story.

He was half-surprised it was that simple. I told him these cars will make a weak battery look like a module problem every time. He did not need a new key. He needed the right answer, found on site, for a fraction of what the dealer would have charged just to look at it.
