A guy in San Ysidro picked up a 2011 BMW 5 Series from a private seller. Solid car, clean, one fob. The seller mentioned the battery in the fob was "probably due soon" and left it at that.

I cleaned the contacts, carefully adjusted the plate, seated a new battery correctly, and walked every function. Lock, unlock, the blade, all of it. Then I showed him where the door cylinder is and how the cover pops off cleanly, because knowing the backup procedure on a BMW is just good ownership.
He had been manually unlocking his car for two weeks over a contact issue smaller than a fingernail. No new fob, no dealer visit. One trip to San Ysidro Village, done on site.
