2012 BMW 5 Series Emergency Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out near the CSUSM Area, I got a call from a woman who had locked herself out of her 5 Series in her own driveway. The fob battery had finally given up, the car wasn't responding to anything, and she had no idea there was an emergency key folded inside the housing the whole time.
She had been standing next to her car for twenty minutes when she found me.
When I pulled up, I walked her through it right there. I showed her the release button on the fob, the blade came out, and she had her door open in about thirty seconds. She looked at that little metal key like it had been hiding from her on purpose.
The fob battery swap brought the remote functions back. But while I had everything apart, I noticed the key shell itself was starting to crack along the seam, the kind of hairline split that turns into a full break the next time someone squeezes it too hard. She asked me about a shell replacement right then.
I had a matching housing in the van. Transferred the internals, fresh battery seated correctly, tested every function against the car before I handed it back. She drove to class without a tow truck, without a dealer appointment, and without waiting on anything to be ordered.
That's the job. Not complicated, just done right at the car.
