2010 BMW 5 Series Emergency Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy parked in a covered garage near Downtown Santee. His 2010 BMW 5 Series had been sitting for a few weeks, and when he came back to it, the fob did nothing. Dead battery in the fob was the obvious guess, but he didn't have a spare battery and didn't know where the door keyhole was. He was about to call a tow.
I told him to stay put.
When I got there, the first thing I did was show him the emergency blade tucked inside the fob. He had no idea it was in there. Then I popped the cover on the driver's door handle and used the blade to get him inside the car in about two minutes. He'd been standing next to a solution the whole time.
The fob battery swap got the electronics back online. I verified the key was still enrolled and communicating correctly with the vehicle's security system, and the car started normally. No tow, no dealer, no multi-day wait for parts.
He asked about getting a spare cut and enrolled before something like this happened again. We talked through what that job looks like and what it takes to add a key while there's still one working key in the system versus having to do it the hard way. He said the dealer had quoted him a number that made him put it off. I told him that's pretty common, and that my number was going to be a lot easier to say yes to.
Whole visit, start to finish, was about an hour. He had a working car and a plan for a backup key before I pulled out of the garage.
