2015 BMW 5 Series
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2015 BMW 5 Series Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was parked near the RB Town Center when a call came in from someone in the same neighborhood. He had a 2015 BMW 5 Series and a story that took about ten minutes to get through.

He'd already been through it with a fake locksmith. Found a low-dollar ad, guy showed up, spent close to an hour doing nothing visible, then handed him a bill that was more than a dealer job and left with the key still not working. Car still wouldn't start. The fob still showed nothing on the dash. He was out real money and back to square one.

By the time he called me, he wasn't asking about price first. He wanted to know if I was licensed. I gave him my BSIS license number on the phone before he even asked twice, and told him he could pull it up on the BSIS lookup while we were still talking. He did.

I got to his car and ran through it properly. The fob itself was the factory unit, just unpaired after whatever the first guy attempted and abandoned. The immobilizer module needed the key re-enrolled through the diagnostic port with the full security handshake that this generation requires. It's not a five-minute job and there's no shortcut that works reliably on these. I took the time it takes.

When it was done, all four buttons responded, the door handles woke up on approach, and the engine started clean. He stood there for a second just watching the dash like he was waiting for something to go wrong.

My quote was what he paid. No surprises. The dealer comparison came up on its own when he looked it up later that day. He sent me a text saying I'd come in well under what the dealer wanted, and that the first guy had charged more than me without finishing anything.
