2010 Chevrolet Equinox
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2010 Chevrolet Equinox Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call at 5:50 in the morning from a guy standing in a parking lot off a job site in Ramona Highlands. His shift started at 6.

The blade on his 2010 Equinox flip key had snapped off inside the ignition cylinder when he went to start it, and he was standing there in the dark with the fob half in his hand and half stuck in the column.

You could hear the pressure in his voice. His foreman was already at the gate clocking people in.

I keep the van stocked and ready for early calls. I was pulling into the lot inside 20 minutes. First order of business was extracting the broken blade piece from the cylinder - you can't just ignore it and cut a new key on top of it. Once the cylinder was clear, I decoded the cut from the lock itself, got a new blade fabricated and fitted into a replacement shell, and ran the programming sequence to marry the transponder to the vehicle. The whole hands-on portion was about 25 minutes.

Before I packed up, I cut him a second key and told him to put it somewhere he'd actually remember - glovebox, center console, anywhere but his pocket next to the first one.

He clocked in at 6:30. That afternoon I got a text saying thanks. Those are the calls I remember: not because they're complicated, but because the timing actually matters and I'm set up to move fast enough to make it count. The dealer would have meant a tow, a wait for parts, and a full day gone. None of that helped him at 6 in the morning.
