2019 Chevrolet Equinox Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A woman out in De Luz called me about her 2019 Equinox. She only had the one fob, and it had started doing something annoying: the car would unlock as she walked up, let her in, and then sit there not recognizing the key when she pressed start. She'd hold the fob closer, try again, and it would eventually catch. She figured the car was glitching.
She called the dealer first. They told her they could look at it, but she'd need to leave the vehicle and plan for a diagnostic fee on top of whatever the fix turned out to be.
She found me through a neighbor and I drove out to her place. The driveway backs up toward the hills and there was no shade, so we worked fast.
I pulled the fob apart on the hood of the car. The CR2032 inside had dropped low enough that the passive functions were inconsistent, but there was still just enough power left to start the car when she held it close. That borderline range is the worst spot because nothing fails completely, so the car doesn't throw a clean warning and the owner spends days wondering if it's something serious.
Fresh battery, contacts wiped down, fob back together. I walked every door, tested passive unlock on both handles, ran all five buttons, and confirmed the start worked from a normal distance across the seat.
That was the whole job. She didn't need a new fob, didn't need a dealer visit, didn't need to leave her car anywhere. Done at her driveway in De Luz for a fraction of what the dealer diagnostic alone would have cost.
