A guy in Fletcher Cove called me on a Sunday. He had a 2004 Suburban parked in his covered spot inside a townhouse complex and needed a spare key made. He had one working key but no remote for it, and his fob from years back had stopped working entirely.

The complex had low clearance at the entrance and tight assigned spots, the kind of layout that makes you think twice about anything with a big wheelbase. His Suburban wasn't going anywhere for this job.

I parked on the street and walked in with my bag and cutting machine case. The first thing I confirmed was whether his existing key still started the truck cleanly. It did. That tells me the transponder is good, which means I can read the needed info from that working key and add a new one alongside it rather than doing an all-keys-lost procedure.

I cut a replacement key blade to match his lock, enrolled the transponder chip in the new key so the immobilizer would accept it, and then programmed a fresh 3-button fob to the truck's receiver. Ran through all three buttons, checked the locks on both front doors and the rear, and had him start it twice with the new key before I packed up.

He never had to figure out how to get the truck out of that spot or wait until Monday for a dealer appointment. The whole visit was under 40 minutes. He paid a fraction of what the dealer would have quoted, and he ended the day with a working key and a working remote instead of one unreliable unit held together with a split keyring and hope.
