2007 Chevrolet Suburban Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in the Richland neighborhood of San Marcos, a guy called me about a 2007 Suburban sitting in his driveway with half a key stuck in the ignition. He had snapped it off at the bow, the part you hold, trying to force a turn when the steering column lock was binding. The blade was in deep enough that his fingers could not get purchase on it.
A locksmith he had called before me told him the cylinder was probably damaged and he should plan on a replacement. New cylinder, rekey, new keys, a whole thing. He did not love that answer so he called me out.
I pulled up, got a look at the break point, and went in with a proper extraction tool. The fragment came out without touching the wafer stack inside. Once it was clear, I decoded the lock, reading each wafer position to get exact cut depths, and cut a fresh blade on the spot. Then I connected to the OBD port and ran the transponder programming so the immobilizer would recognize the new key.
He turned the key. Truck started first try, same as it always had.
The cylinder was fine the whole time. His lock still works with the new key exactly the way it worked with the original. The dealer comparison came up on its own when he saw what the other guy had quoted him. I just let the work speak to that.
