Third, and less common: RF interference. Certain parking structures, shopping centers, and areas with dense wireless infrastructure can cause temporary range issues that disappear once you move. If range is consistently bad everywhere, that points back to the fob or the battery. If it comes and goes by location, it is environmental and not a hardware problem.
