2011 Chevrolet Suburban
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2011 Chevrolet Suburban Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

She was parked in her garage in Downtown Santee when she called. The flip key on her 2011 Suburban had finally given out at the hinge. The blade was hanging loose, the shell was in two pieces, and she was holding the whole thing together with a rubber band.

She had already called the dealer. They quoted her a full replacement: new key, cut, and programmed. She asked if the electronics inside were still good and they told her it didn't matter, that's just how the job is done.

I pulled up to her driveway with flip key shells that fit this generation of Suburban and my key cutting equipment. She watched me open the old shell. The circuit board was clean. The transponder chip was seated fine. The hinge had cracked right where these always crack, at the stress point where the blade pivots, because the plastic fatigues after a few years of daily pocket carry and the hinge takes all of it.

I transferred her working board and chip into a fresh shell, cut a new blade to match her original, and ran the relearn cycle on-site to confirm the transponder was talking to the vehicle correctly. Start, shut off, start again. Dash warning gone. Locks responding. Everything working the way it should.

She paid a fraction of what the dealer quoted. The electronics they wanted to replace were never the problem.
