A body shop in Otay Mesa called me on a job another locksmith had already touched. That part alone tells you it's not going to be a quick visit.
A 2019 Suburban had come in for body work, and somewhere in the process a key replacement got attempted. The other locksmith hit a wall mid-sequence -- power interrupted during programming -- and the vehicle security system locked up. The whole job ran about an hour and a half -- longer than a clean all-keys-lost on one of these, but that's the reality when you're unwinding someone else's incomplete work before you can even start the actual job.
The body shop foreman asked me to walk him through what happened so he'd know what to tell customers if a locksmith ever suggested that kind of job in the future. That part didn't cost extra. I just think they should know.
The owner got his Suburban back same day. The alternative was a flatbed ride to the dealer, probably two or three days of waiting, and a bill that would have made the original key replacement look like nothing.
