2001 Ford Expedition Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy in Rancho Bernardo, right near the RB Town Center, called me about his 2001 Expedition sitting dead in the driveway. Not dead as in no battery. Dead as in he had the fob, the fob battery was fine, but the car would not start. He had already swapped the CR2032. Still nothing.

He thought it was an electrical problem. Maybe the starter. Maybe something expensive.

When I got there, he handed me the fob first. I told him the fob was not his issue. The remote and the ignition key are separate systems on this truck. The fob does the doors and the rear glass. The transponder in the key is what talks to the immobilizer at startup. His key blade was fine. The chip inside had failed, which happens on keys this age. The plastic head cracks, the chip shifts, the reader stops seeing it consistently.

He had one key. That key was done.

I cut a replacement key blade to his vehicle and programmed a new transponder to the immobilizer on site. Tested it three times before I packed up. The truck started clean every time.

He mentioned the dealer had told him to bring it in and plan on leaving it. I was there and gone in under an hour. That was the whole story for him, really. He did not have to tow it anywhere, did not have to arrange a ride, did not lose a workday.
