2015 Ford Expedition
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2015 Ford Expedition Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy in Downtown La Mesa had just bought a used 2015 Expedition off a small lot. Good truck, one key. The lot told him to sort out a spare on his own.

He called the Ford dealer first. They quoted him a wait for the appointment, and the price made him stop and do the math out loud on the phone with me. He asked if dealer pricing was just the way it was. I told him it was pretty standard for the dealer route, but that he had other options.

I met him in Downtown La Mesa before he even drove the truck home. Smart move, because all-keys-lost on a smart key vehicle costs more and takes longer than adding a spare while you still have one working fob in hand.

I verified the factory FCC ID on his existing fob, matched the correct blank, cut the replacement blade to his vehicle, and used my programmer at the OBD port to add the new fob to the system. The original key stayed enrolled. Both fobs live in the system now.

When both keys were confirmed working, I walked him through what add-a-key versus all-keys-lost actually means in practice. Because if he ever loses that original, the job changes. He nodded like that was the first time anyone had explained it plainly.

He paid a fraction of what the dealer quoted and drove home with two working keys. The dealer was an afterthought by the time he pulled out of the lot.
